Climate Change & Sustainability
RPS helps clients to understand the opportunities and threats arising from climate change and to successfully respond to them.
We work with clients to identify and assess initiatives that will make their projects more sustainable and to optimise economic, social and environmental outcomes.
RPS has been recognised at the local, state, national and international levels for leadership in sustainability and climate change, which we consider to be integral to projects across oil and gas and renewable energy, urban growth and infrastructure.
We seek to positively influence projects we participate in, so that they are more sustainable as a result of our involvement.
We have also been involved with major national climate change studies and various policy-development activities.
Our climate change and sustainability services are focused in four interrelated areas:
- Climate change adaptation - designing, planning and delivering communities and infrastructure that is able to cope with and resilient to the impacts of climate change.
- Greenhouse gas mitigation - designing, planning and delivering communities and infrastructure that has a low greenhouse gas emissions profile (electricity demand management, energy efficiency, renewable energy, carbon sequestration and carbon offsetting).
- Energy transformation - reducing energy demand, improving energy efficiency and facilitating electricity generation that has a low greenhouse gas intensity.
- Sustainability assessment and reporting - quantifying the sustainability of a project or business, setting guidelines and standards to work to, and developing tools to apply and reporting on sustainability principles in design and operation.
