Oxley Creek Hydrogeological Conceptualisation
RPS was retained to locate, collate and interpret available geological and hydrogeological data for the Oxley and Blunder Creek systems to provide basic groundwater and geological data to underpin future strategies for the management and development of this major, but significantly degraded waterway that straddles both the Brisbane City and Logan City local government areas.
The alluvial aquifer system was characterised in detail with the preparation of detailed lithological cross sections, basement contours, isopachs of alluvium and surface sediment thickness, and analyses of aquifer texture. The project also included detailed assessment of available surface hydrographs and the application of hydrograph base flow separation techniques to assess the contribution and significance of groundwater inflow to Oxley Creek as well as aquifer recharge assessments based on water balance analysis of groundwater hydrographs obtained through the installation of automatic groundwater level data loggers in key private water bores.
