Binningup Desalination Plant

The Water Corporation has been commissioned to build and operate a new desalination plant in the south west of Western Australia. The plant is being constructed in the town of Binningup (approximately 20km north of Bunbury) and will provide around 50 Gl/year of drinking water to help meet the growing demand for the state; however planned future expansions will see the plant producing as much as 100 Gl/year.

RPS’ involvement included an assessment of the soil and groundwater and to provide expert advice on the appropriate management of these during the construction of the sub-terrain infrastructure. RPS has also assisted in obtaining required approvals from regulatory authorities. The desalination plant is due to commence operation in 2011.
