Berrinba Flood Modelling

RPS developed a stormwater management plan and undertook a flood study for a proposed subdivision of a rural residential area into approximately 38 industrial lots near Logan City in South East Queensland.

The proposed development lies within the catchment area of Scrubby Creek and part of site is prone to flooding. There is a large external catchment draining through the site.

Development required realignment of a waterway through the site, and hydraulic impacts on adjoining properties and Wembley Road were determined and the waterway designed to minimise impacts.

Hydrologic modelling was carried out using WBNM, and hydraulic modelling was carried out using TUFLOW. Two-dimensional flow modelling was required. Alternative waterway alignments and dimensions were modelled and fill levels for the site were determined from the hydraulic modelling.

A revegetation plan for the waterway was also prepared consistent with the hydraulic properties used in the hydraulic modelling. A concept stormwater quality management plan was prepared for the development with stormwater quality treatment devices sized to achieve target pollutant load reductions, using the MUSIC model.
